New Beginnings Church was founded in Clayton, North Carolina by Pastors Matt and Linda Lutz. Several years later, Matt studied Genesis 28:10-20, the account of Jacob having a vision at Bethel of a ladder rising into heaven and angels ascending and descending on the ladder. Jacob encounters God at Bethel and states, "surely this place is the house of God." Bethel was a place of open heavens, divine revelation and encounter. Pastor Matt felt that the Lord was saying New Beginnings Church should be renamed New Bethel Church.
In 2010 a prophetic word was delivered to New Bethel Church declaring that the church would move to a central location in the region and that people would come there from all over the world. After an extensive time of prayer and seeking God, New Bethel moved to Cary, North Carolina. New Bethel’s home was first moved to East Cary Middle School and stayed there for three years.
After three years, it was time to seek a more permanent home in the Cary area. Eventually, the current location became available and it fulfilled further prophetic direction from words, dreams and visions. The street number of the current building is 1110 and the street number of New Beginnings Church in Clayton was 111. Another prophetic vision described New Bethel as a tree with its trunk in one city but its roots reaching into surrounding towns. The current building sits on the border of Cary and Raleigh. It has a Raleigh address but is managed by the town of Cary, which is unusual but lines up with the vision.
Matt and Linda Lutz sought God for their next steps in ministry and as a result, appointed
Associate Pastors Boris and Linda Wiggins as Senior Pastors. After their departure, New Bethel Church came under the leadership of the current Senior Leadership Team.
For the last several years, Lead Pastors Marcus and Vida Plating have been leading New Bethel Church (now Bethel City Church) in a relentless pursuit of the Word of God, the Heart of God and the Works of God. The goal of this pursuit is that each member may encounter God for themselves and learn to bring heaven to earth. Pastor Marcus is a passionate prayer warrior, and thus, prayer is the foundation of all that we do at New Bethel. Through times of corporate prayer and studying the Word together, minds are being renewed and lives are being transformed so that we may reach and serve the needy, hurt and lost around us.
